Hi Steve. I have experienced this problem also. The way I did it was to losen the bolt securing the Shaft to the VC enough to remove the "C" shaped washer. Then with a huge pry bar that you can get a fair bit of leverage on push the bar twix the universal joint with the curve of the bar resting on the bolt. After soaking it all in WD you sould ne able to get a little bit of movement on the shaft. You will suss out that after a bit of tightening/looosening the bolt you will get the right angle to pry the shaft loose. Once it starts to move you can take up the slack with the bolt and pry again. This is best done with an assistant stopping the entire assembly from running away fromm you or better still - in a vice. Once removed give the splines a good polish with wire wool to help get it all back together again. You will probably find the splines quite rusty! Let me know how you get on.

Cheers Simon
hi Steve,
my first time on the forum. I had exactly the same problem as yourself and Simon, just couldn't get the front shaft to budge off the splines. I ended up cutting off the vcu support bearing with an angle grinder in order to get heat right onto the collar along with a brass drift and heavy hammer -eventually it came apart. On the up side I had to abandon the problem, as my wife and I were going on holiday in the caravan, and leave the propshafts off and lo got an extra 10 mile to gallon of diesel whilst touring.
cheers, Drew
