Latest copy of LRO has arrived and it shows a few lanes around Conwy (very close to me). Not too sure how accurate their information is?
I posted a few grid references they quoted for South Wales in the "Anyone from South Wales? " last month, http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52417
Turned out to be problems with a number of them TRO etc
Think they might have done the same again, bear with me as I am no expert and not in GLASS : -
First lane (Conwy Mountain) start arrow is on a BOAT but some distance from it's start which I know is off a tarmac lane - in the mag it only shows a RUPP which I didn't think you could now drive and in anycase last time I looked there was a No Motor Vehicle Sign...
Second lane (Henryd) appears to be around 200 yards long, driven past the end many time but never noticed it - no issues just don't know how I missed it
Third lane (Capel Curig) starts off as a BOAT but turns into a RUPP and the middle bit seems a real mess - just the sort of thing to upset the ramblers? Is it the right image in these sensative times?
Might be concerned over nothing but I would be interested if anyone knows any more about them? Not posting the grid refs just in case spreading the mis-information.
May take a look tomorrow - on my MTB ;)
Lots of great tracks around here but difficult to know where's legal - now should I spend my next pocket money on joining GLASS or North Wales Landrover Club

North Wales Landrover Club their web site is www.nwlrc.co.uk (http://www.nwlrc.co.uk) they produce a good newsletter and the website is easy to use and they've got lots of local knowledge, and a member of the comittee is the greenlanes liason officer.

Just spend a day looking at the Definitive map and the local council offices.

I think that LRO are showing distinctly poor judgement by publishing these lanes. They published an apology for the Rusland Pool photos and report recently - but they keep on doing it.
Is it me?

No, and I don't think you are alone, its an interesting link, it seems fair to say that the consensus is that if they carry on printing lane details they should fully reseach and publish as many details as possible (copied some of the best bits from your link :) :-
Seasonal TRO's
Local club details
Local rights of way officer details
Where the definitive map can be seen
Accurate grid references
Clear details of route start finish and how to access from the public highway
Most importantly set a good example, if the lane isn't fit to drive don't!
The alternative, which other comics seem to do is just to give the general area and contact details for a local club.
Sort of passed 2 of the lanes this afternoon, the RUPP leading to the first start arrow was definatly closed. The second lane seemed a little bit tight but otherwise looked find. Was going to try it but Mrs Common Sense talked me out of it :( Going to walk it first, perhaps tomorrow...

Downloaded the applcation form a will join when I get my next lot of pocket money :D
The BREAKDOWN ASSISTANCE sounds good as does the NORTH WALES LAND ROVER RESCUE "This is a register of members who are prepared to assist the civil authorities with 4wd vehicles in time of emergency; natural or man-made" - never know when some antis will need saving :D

The only problem with the closed one is that it might not be closed. I have come across roads with signs on saying closed and when I have checked them out om the DM them they are not closed at all.
So unless its had a DMMO done on it who knows and this the problem. I went to a ROW improvement plan meeting last week at Wrexham, the 2nd biggest problem that came up was lack of correct signs. The 1st was lack of maintence. I did ask if there was plans to put the DM on line to make it easer for people to see, they said it would be looked into.

Fair point however if you drive past a low flying motorcycle sign are you not committing a road traffic offence?
Don't think plod would care about whats on the DM...

I have spoken to the police about this before and yes they could fine you for doing that. The best way is if you are not sure then do not drive it. If you are sure it is ok to drive then drive it, but make sure you can prove its ok to drive, and not just because "your mate or a mag says its ok".

The traffic friendly police we have here would definatly fine - probably find a speed camera lurking half way down the lane as well
Will give the RoW guy in Conwy Council a call next week and go in to see the DM - there are a few lanes around Betws y Coed which I am also interested in finding the stutus of...
Going to walk up the mountain lane this morning as its been a few years since I last went up there...best put on my red socks, bobble hat and take a stick to shake at any offroaders :D :D

Walked the length of the Conwy Mountain BOAT this morning - from its start off the tarmac road appropriately named Mountain Lane to its end - some horse damage, several walkers and a mountain biker - very little sign of vehicle use until near they end. Route looks easy enough and if you go from the real start you don't need to use the RUPP shown in LRO which is signed as closed  No evidence of road closed TRO signs anywhere - lets hope the LRO article doesn't change it...
Great views, well worth the walk, MTB rider turned out to be a mate from college - he's got a drink problem now - 3.9 V8 Disco :D but looking at getting a TD5 model - emailed him a few links to this site as there is so much good info :)

There was 2 of us. I could have got out with the winch. Its just the hole was dug delibratley. Its not the fact that I went down it going slow. Its what if it was a horse of cyclist. The hole was at least 3 foot deep, I have 33 inch tyres, and about 3 foot square. It looked like a puddle as I have driven it before and it was rebuilt a few months ago by the Forestry Commission to a good standard. We could see where the stone that had been removed at the top of the bank. It has now been reported to PCC and the Forestry Commission.

Runs almost to Sychnant - most to the tyre tracks I saw were towards the Sychnant end however the BOAT runs out before Sychnant Pass - it looks like vehicles are coming from the Pass side even though its signed as a Private road - the whole area is criss-crossed with farm tracks
Really surprised the BOAT up the mountain is open - I was aware of it but always assumed it was closed - will check with RoW guy tomorrow and let him know he might be busy thanks to LRO :D
Walking up today it really is a great unspolied route.
Did the second route in the mag this afternoon, very nice :D Again unspoled, tight and slightly overgrown in bits, only a few hundred yards long - signs of lots of horse use. Not worth a trip on its own but I often take my dogs around a nearby wood and when I am passing I am sure I will try it again :D :D
Anyone wants the refs PM me
If they check out should I post for all? Do we have a forum policy? Members only area?

Don't understand people who do this...
Antis or someone nearby with a tractor trying to make some income??

Dogs loved the walk out - somewhere new for them although as there where sheep they had to be on a lead - weren't happy
Will post some pics later when I download the camera...

Map showing BOAT enclosed, it leaves the tarmac road at the purple dot, the LRO article shows it starting at the red dot and if you didn't know better you would think the access was via the RUPP but there is a low flying motorcycle sign at the black dot
Dark blue dot is the end of the BOAT but there seems to be signs of traffic coming over from Sychnant Pass, light blue dot which is signed as a Private road??

Conwy county council highways dept have confirmed the route up Conwy Mountain is a BOAT and they are not aware of any TRO's
Few photos I took when I walked up week before last, route doesn't seem to have seen much traffic, great views from the top :D :D
