Last Saturday night whilst returning from a pleasant meal with my wife, sister & brother-in-law, we were hit by a car which literally 'bounced' off the opposite kerb into the side of us while being driven at around 50mph on a 30mph (built up area) road (wife driving bless her). The other cars drivers side hit the drivers side of the Freelander leaving its side trim embedded in our rear plastic wheel arch and other bits all over the road. As this car sped off we assumed it was either stolen or the 'young' driver was the worse for drink (the car behind us saw the driver but did not get the registration!). The reason I write this that I've only had the Freelander 3 months, and the damage, whilst annoying, is remarkably less than I thought it would be with the noise of the collision. It appeared to have just bounced off our car. The doors have scrape marks and a reasonable dent in the drivers, but not so much as to rush out and have it all sorted. I dread to think what would have happened if I had been in my Mazda RX8 (aluminium door and all). Not only am I impressed, and reassured, with the build / safety aspect of the Freelander, I'm already, with my wifes blessing considering getting the new Freelander once its launched.
Hopefully its not going to be an unlucky car - Just hope its luck we were in it at the time.
