Hi all,

I'm trying to sort out a problem for my father-in-law in crete. He's got a LHD 99 Freelander and the LCD clock display thing has broken 4 times now and without it, the radio the won't work if the battery gets disconnected. as parts are even more expensive in greece than they are here, he asked me to buy it and send it over.

I went to the dealer in manchester (Williams in Hulme?) and got a clock display but the guy I spoke to didn’t seem to know whether this was a common fault or why it would have broken 4 times.

I couldn’t get much info about the exact FL my father-in-law has got but I managed to get a display that looked about right, the part number ended in 102. However I now find out that the clock (broken) currently installed has a similar part number on the back of it but the last 3 digits are 100. Now I need to find out if I’ve got the wrong part. (I think the first part of the part number is QH100)

So, anyone had this problem where the display keeps breaking? Is it a similar problem to this http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7371&highlight=clock (http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7371&highlight=clock)? If so, any ways to remedy the constant breaking? Or is it just a case of buying a new display every year or so?

Thanks,

From what the salesman who sold us our freelander said it is a common problem. He mentioned it as our one was faulty when it was demod so he had to replace it before we took delivery.
I don't know what causes the problem.

Hi. This is indeed a common problem with the LCD clocks. Ebay is always full of LCD Freelander clocks for sale! Mine went a bit doo lally after my interior was steam cleaned, however it has now returned to normal. According to LR this is caused by something inside the unit overheating, however I suspect this may be a cop out. Nokia mobile phone screens used to suffer with a similar problem which could be fixed with a part called an elastomer. The part costs about 99p but is a nightmare to fit. I would be interested in getting hold of an old faulty Freelander clock to test if my theory is correct - if so a very cheap fix could be at hand!

The backlight has gone on mine, and I don't know if it's related but my interior light doesn't work when I manually turn it on (though it works when the door's opened). I've checked the fuses and all okay.

Backlights probably just gone dead, open it up and see if there is a bulb/led you need to change.... I cant remeber...

Interior light switch is probably gammy, take it apart and clean the contacts, do the side ones come on or just the main not coming on/off?

Russ

Thanks for that. I've only got one interior light in my 3 door - sounds like you have some fancy passenger side lights in yours? These standard in the 5 door then?
