The lovely Louise bought me a TomTom1 for Christmas.
callisr and I went up to Sheffield with it yesterday, to an obscure address, it was brilliant.
Door to door, not a step wrong and no bothering the village idiot [no, not callisr] who I normally stop to ask for directions. One had me following his bike for about a mile, because he couldn't tell left from right.
[He decided to show me the route as it was round the corner from where he lived:( ...... I suppose he was doing his best, and I am an ungrateful git]
Anyway, I can recommend the tom-tom, especially for anyone, who, if like me, couldn't find their rather copious ****, even if they used both hands, let alone a route that involves turning a corner:D

PS Has anyone got a copy of the "western Europe" mapping and could it be copied [for a fee]...reply by pm.....big brother may be watching:D

I didn't know you knew it.
That wasn't you the rather butch looking lady was using as a foot stool, was it. [callisr told me about her,]
If so, callisr was well impressed with the bridle.
I sometimes think you more broad minded types have a much better time of it than us more boring heterosexuals:(

If you've just got a TomTom then have a look at www.pocketgps.co.uk (http://www.pocketgps.co.uk) loads of useful stuff on there. You can even download the "accident blackspot" database to add as a point of interest on your TomTom. That way you'll know when you're approaching one of these "accident blackspots" and not have you're picture taken!! ;)

Thanks timbo,
I tried downloading that to the unit but there wasn't enough rmemory to downlaod it all.
Have you used a bigger memory than the one that comes with it?

Mick is more concerned with the "accident brownspots" that plague him from time to time in his trolleys. Apparently it happens alot with people of micks vintage! They tend to be more splats of interest than points of interest :D
and he doesnt need a tom tom to find them, he just follows the trail up from his socks:D :D

Thanks timbo,
It is nice to have an intelligent transfer of information between adults:)
Unfortunately:( , we have to put up with callisr's toilet humour going on in the background....A sure sign his carer has left him alone at the computer and his attention span has reached its limits....Medication and pad changing time callisr, nurse will be along shortly.
I can't see this care in the community working:(

Hi Bryn1000
For memory, in fact lots of camera and printer stuff, these are brilliant.
7dayshop.com
[I don't think that's a clicky thing , you will have to do it by hand;) the old fashioned way]
I am sending for some stuff from them later.
I use them for printer ink too, it works out at £1.99 instead of £27.00 a go, I can't tell any difference between them.

If you take the memory card out of the tomtom you will see the one you want.
On the 7day site it gives you a choice of types, take your pick....then you just need to choose the memory size.
I was going for 3 512's, as I want the Europe mapping when I can get hold of it.
That will give me one for the UK, with "accident black spot" and two for any Europe mapping I will need to take with me.
I cant see me wanting Scandinavia and Spain at the same time, so I am hoping 2 should be enough....unless anyone here can tell me different.

What way do they expect people to go. That is the main route without going down narrow lanes or miles out of the way.
NIMBY,s
They all go out in their own transport, drive through other peoples neighbourhoods, park outside other peoples homes, then complain when someone does it in theirs.
And they never, ever fly when they go abroad:eek:

can you enter any O/S grid refs
For those who run TomTom software on a PocketPC there is a neat little freeware application called OS GPS Convertor.
It will allow you to enter an OS grid ref or a LAT/LON coordinate and it will then create a TOMTOM Point of Interest (POI) entry. You then can navigate to that POI with TomTom.
More info and the software here:
http://www.freenetpages.co.uk/hp/barrydavies/osgps.htm
I have used this application for sometime now. Great for getting to the co-ords of suggested carparking areas stated in geocache descriptions.
I am still after a copy of the Western Europe mapping if anyone has got one for sale:)

Bought myself a Tomtom One a couple of months ago. Great bit of kit. Went to look at a Discovery for sale yesterday......75 miles away......in the middle of an estate full of left turn right turn left turn etc.etc.....then the nice Tom tom lady says 'You have reached your destination'.....look to the right and there's the discovery........Best £250 I have spent for a long while.
Remember though, that the UK map only lives on the SD card......there's no backup on the CD so one of the first things you should do is use the CD to create a backup of the card on your computer.
The card they use is the standard 'SD flash memory card. The Tomtom One comes with a 128MB card so there isn't a great deal of spare room on it, however I managed to get the pocketworld GPS database on it by removing one of the voices I never use. Replacement cards are available from just aboutanywhere fairly cheaply.........You can also buy (from TomTom) a 1.5GB card with the seamless maps of western europe on them (at a price though!).....the benefit of the seamless maps is you can plan youre route door to door without having to plan to the border of one map, swap maps, plant to the border of the next map etc......
I got the wife one for xmas, shes complaining that theres not enough memory to plot all her 120 accounts (buisness manager for brintons carpets)
can you get more memory for a tom tom one ?? cant see any on the web:(
I don't think you need more memory for this......what you need to do is create a 'POI' category.....then add the 120 locations as POI's within that category.........they will take up next to no memory at all.........
PM me if you need any help with it.
