Hi all

On Saturday I noticed a bit of diesel collecting inside the rim of the lift pump on my Disco Tdi. Is this likely to be a fuel pipe union leaking or the pump itself? Is there a way to tell, as I can't see any diesel leaking with the engine idling?

Plan A - tighten the pipe unions and check again during the week.
Plan B - abdicate responsibility to the little man.
Plan C - Climb in and fix the thing myself.

Can the pump be repaired or is it a replacement if it is leaking?

Howzit Henk,

I'm not looking at a pump at the moment, but as far as I can remember it is a sealed unit that can't be repaired. I also don't think it's likely to have sprung a leak. Far more likely is that the unions or a flexible pipe is leaking, perhaps near a hose clamp.

Cheers,
Marc

It was the pump.

It is now replaced and I have less skin on my fingers than when I started.

Glad you sorted that out. Where did you get a new pump, and how much?

Just curious...

Got the pump at Independent 4x4 in Pretoria North for R250,80. The stealers wanted R2622,00 for the same part.
