25mpg... 30mpg if you're lucky - 20mpg or less if driven hard. I presume you're asking about a 200TDi.. If its a V8 you are thinking of - if you need ask then you can't afford it (12-14 round town).
Look for rotten bodyshell and doors. This is normally an indication of terminal rust elsewhere.

Check for evidence of some maintenance... like greased UJs or clean oil. A lot of these will have been run as cars now by people who ... ermm... basically can't afford to run them properly.
Check everything works - electrical and mechanical.. don't think all jobs are going to be "easy to sort out in ten mins" like the seller will tell you. If they are so easy to fix - how come he hasn't done it.
Be picky as they are loads for sale and at low prices too. There are pletny of good ones out there, but also loads of dogs that basically are a few miles from the scrap yard.

Lift the rear carpet, and point out the rust.
new boot floor costs about 60 notes and doesn't seem to be that hard to do!! if well rusty (and it probably will be) should be good for knocking 3 or 4 hundred off the price.
If you open the rear doors, obviously on a 5 door:rolleyes: , check the area at the bottom of the wheel arch. where it meets the cills try and pull the plastic cover back a bit - water sits behind it and rots out the cills (dont ask how I know, but I've just got a mig welder to fix it!!)
Check the front footwells for dampness. if the carpets are wet then the undercarpet foam will be absolutely soaked as its like a sponge material. this can indicate either the front of the footwell has gone - you'll be able to see this from the inside of the wheel arch - or that the inner wings are shot. this is harder to see as you need to remove the front outer wing - i checked mine the other week and had no intentions of taking the wing off but as its only 3 bolts and about 8 screws its easy to take off and put back on again. Seller probably wont let you take it off tho :D :D
catch the wet things now, when its good and wet outside, and you'll have the chance to get everything dry in the warmer weather. doing it the other way around means you wont really know until next winter if it all leaks.
One other place to check is by the alpine lights. feel the carpet under the dickie seats, if fitted. simple fix is to fill the rain gutters with silicone sealant, or similar. did it to mine and now the boot is dry.
let us know if you need any other specifics or tell us what you get.
happy hunting
BTW if i fill the tank on mine i can just about squeeze 600 miles on a decent run - driving at about 55-60.
If you get a tdi bank on getting the timing belt done straight away regardless of what the seller says. local garage would prolly do it for around 100-150 notes

Depending on where you are!, out of four independent Landrover repair premises near me, the quotes go from £220 to £285 for a cambelt change:rolleyes:
