I have a 98 NAS Disco I V8 petrol
After having the vehicle for 4 months the vehicle now has a strong smell of oil (sorta burnt) after driving. Some people have mentioned that there is a possible issue with the valley gasget that needs to be replaced....I'm a bit timmid to try this yet without having a lot of info on how to do it since I've not even changed my own oil. I'm a bit timid to ask the local repair shop how much this will be since I would think it could be as bad as the brake job was ($800 ). Anyhow I have a few pictures here and was wondering if anyone could give me some hints to as what is going on...

Is the oil filter OK, looks like that is leaking.

Good question,

Will check that out that may not be torked down right...time before last my father and I did the oil change and didn't have these issues....used Land Rover filter (which my brother qucikly pointed out being a Ford Filter since he's a mustang person :D) and the nut etc. This time around pad $50 to have someone change the oil and it smells bad and its like something went totally wrong....when I would check the oil levels and add more, used a Valvoline oil that was made for higher millage engines and it doesn't smell as bad with that....

dont know about landy v8 but me rover vittesse use to leak on the valley gasket end seals, did do them and a bit of silicon sealer in the corners. on mine the oil could be seen at the rear of the engine laying in a little pool in the valley gasket itself, alan........
