Hi all, I need your help again.
I have been offered a 2000 X reg Disco TD5 auto. It has done 160000 miles. It had a new engine fitted at 110000 and a new auto gearbox fitted 2 month ago. I was wondering if anyone thinks this would be a good Disco to go for. I am just not sure if these were problematic engines if they need changing at 100000 miles or so. They are asking £6500 for the motor.
I need reasurring if this is the right option. as I currently have a 1997 300TDI disco Auto with 120000 on the clock and it still runs as good as if it has done only 50000. If you think I should change for the TD5 Then how much would my current Disco be worth.

P.s. I took the TD5 out for a test drive, It felt OK but I didnt think it had the same pick up power as the 300TDI?

I paid a lot more than £6500 for my W reg TD5 manual and I'm pleased. It only had 45k onthe clock, one owner and full LR history.

As long as everything else is OK, you seem to have a decent motor there. The Td5 is a lot "perkier" than my last 300Tdi, but has to be revved much more to get the most from it. Are you sure it's a NEW engine, not some tired example. Also, the auto box should run forever if looked after.

you are right I did have to rev it a bit harder. It has a new engine as I know the guy selling it. maybe it had a hard life as it was a guy working on sites that owned it so a lot of off roading. probably thrashed it on the motorway as well.
But I was thinking if both main components have been changed it may be a good buy.

I'd make sure everything works and nothing is bent. If that's the case, I would be happy spending that sort of money. Make sure everything DOES work as the total cost of lots of small faults can cost a fortune.

took Another test drive. the only problem I can find is that 2 lights stay on on the dash - one is the abs, I think the other may be traction control (it is a round symbol with a wavy line around the outside.
could this be serious or is it a simple fix

These symptoms are mentioned elseware on the forum, but I cant remember the resolution. JonV8 and Templar will be able to tell you.

I have the same problem. It is the ABS sensers on the front wheels, they are fitting new ones Monday (about £300). the sensers are only about £60 but they no longer just plug in but have to be wired back to the ecu so labour is high. the only good thing is that it is the plugs that are the problem-no plugs hopfuly no more problem. I have clocked 101000 go for they are a great car
