I am having ABS trouble with my 1996 300Tdi Disco, late last year the ABS warning light came on I took the car to a local Garage who uses Autologic and he told me that the modulator was faulty and he also tested the motor on the modulator to confirm this, (pump running when not switched on, all inlet / outlet valves open circuit)
I managed to track down a replacement modulator and this was fitted by my local Land rover independent, however the warning light was still on, took the car back to the diagnostic man who said the software on his diagnostic equipment had had an upgrade and it did not always work with this age of land rover, when he plugged in he got the same error as before, he advised me to take the car to land rover main agent,
I took the car to the main agent and they got the same errors.
over the weekend whilst towing a horse trailer on soft ground I touched the brakes and the ABS kicked in (warning light is still on) so explained this to land rover and booked it in again for diagnostics, picked the car up and land rover reported that there are no faults stored in the ECU ABS appears to be working and the warning light is still on and they did not know why the warning light would stay on.

Has any body any idea what the problem could be?

Some vehicles need the battery disconnecting to reset the ECU and fault codes, maybe the warning light is a bit dim (geddit) and hasn't realised he can go to bed.

Pull the warning light out! Drive with anticipation of normal braking with no ABS, then be glad it still works and stops you sooner!

Most ABS problems seem to be down to the wheel sensors, regardless of what the diagnostics say.

the ABS warning light relay it's in the passenger footwell, under the glove box. Lever out the 3 press-in studs, and the trim panel can drop. There are half a dozen relays on a bracket under the ABS ECU. The one we're looking for is nearest to you, but in the second row, "behind" some others. Difficult to explain, but obvious when you get in there. The relay bases slide onto brackets, push them away from the wires and they'll slide of the bracket.
The Warning Relay is a green relay on a green base, and has 2 black wires, 1 black/green wire and 1 brown/red wire.
hope this will help
