Usually ISP`s supply free web space ... check with yours first & you will need an FTP (file transfer protocol) client (freebies available) to upload the files to your webspace :)

If Virgin is your ISP you will get web space included in your package. There are instructions on what to do on this page (http://www.virgin.net/customers/helpme/freespace/index.html) :)
BT will have a similar set-up with help pages etc

Cheers Bernie I looked at the virgin link and it dosnt support Front page I will try and find the BT one.
By not supporting Front Page do you mean front page extensions and active script, cgi and the like?
You will find none of the free services support that kind of thing. If it's just that you used front page to build the site then it will work ok.
Since it is free why not put something up, in plain html, and see how it goes anyway.

Ask one of the site admins of this site for some freebie space :)
They can support frontpage extensions.

To be perfectly honest these days free space isnt worth the hassle. Its over run with advertising you dont want, generally slow and badly managed.
For as little as a few quid a year you can get some decent hosting with a proper TLD (top level domain).

My Company (www.cyberprog.net) does a small package with the purchase of an domain name, so for a £10 .co.uk you'd get an account with an 200mb bandwidth limit a month :)

I understand that most ISPs will give you a certain amount of free web-space. Some of these will also give you a tool to upload to their servers. I have my own web-site at:
homepage.eircom.net/~gordonsteele
I know its a crap name, but hey, its free. The main title of your web-site should appear in search engines anyway. There are no adverts, no costs, no domain names. As long as your site is a non commercial site, you should be alright.

Yeah, but when you consider how cheap professional hosting is, it's silly to be using a long and hard to remember url.

your right, it is a long and hard to remember url, but it its still out there, and I have had e-mails from America, New Zealand and Australia. So it may be a long winded url, but people still manage to find the site. And its
FREEEEEEEE!
Nobody is going to type in your domain name straight away, they do not know your site exsists. Generally people use a search engine and its the title of your page that is the first thing you see in a search engine, in google its dark blue. The actual site name ie joeblogs.com is the last thing right at the bottom of the search entry, if using google, its in green.
If you want to give the address to your friends, then just copy and paste it into the address bar. No hardship Thats what I do with this site, I have the address written down in notepad, and just copy and paste it into the address bar.

This is true, but you're talking about a url that even you can't remember! By your own admission, you've got to look it up!
Each to his own, but for the cost of it, pro hosting wins every time :)

No, I meant the Land Rover web-site, not my own.
