Can anyone tell me the knack of removing the mirror glass from a Td5 electric mirror. Somehow the motor turns but the in/out movement has stopped. I'm sure if I just use a bit of force, I will end up with seven years bad luck!

Have had a similar problem. The unit is a single "for Life"unit and quite expensive. To remove the unit this is done through the inside of the door by removing the plastic cover and disconecting the multiplug and three retaining bolts. Once off you can fiddle with the mirror - there is a gear mechanisim that fails and it my be possible to massage it back into place. Otherwise try second hand parts suppliers??

If you just need to get the glass off to inspect the motor, this is what the RAVE disk says:-
1. Press the outer end of the glass inwards to its full extent.
2. Insert the fingers under the inner end of the glass and pull outwards until the glass is released from its two retaining clips.
3. Disconnect the two demister leads attached to the back of the glass unit.
4. To replace the glass, locate the inner end of the glass in the retaining clip of the housing first.
5. Carefully press the outer end of the glass inwards until it securely locates in the front retaining clip.
6. Reset the fine adjustment as required.
A new glass piece is about £13 if it all goes wrong.
I need to do the same job soon, one mirror motor is not woking correctly, unless I start it in the middle, and on the other side the heater is not working.
Good luck with it.

As a visual help, this site has some good photo's of the inside of the assembly so you know what your working with:-

The pictures of the mirror glass are in the last quarter of the page, a long scroll, really useful pics of other interesting items too.

Couldn't resist a fiddle.
Got the glass of without a problem (thanks Cobblers). Unfortunately the ratchet mechanism has had it. Will live with it for now and source a S/H one when I've done the gearbox and brake disks.
Always something to do on a LR:)
