View Full Version : Disco 1 headlight ball joint

While doing a checkup before a 2 day trip, I noticed that one of the plastic ball joint sockets on my left headlight is broken and had been "fixed" with some sort of glue. Checking this up caused the glue to fall off as well. It is now "fixed" with a cable tie, awaiting replacement.

I've found a thing called a "headlight adjuster kit, but the photos that I can see in catalogues seem to show only the male side of the ball joint. Is there a suitable genuine, aftermarket or generic socket available? Am I in for a whole new headlight - or a repair that looks better than glue or a cable tie? Is it worth getting a second hand headlight and getting the necessary bit off it, or is this likely to have also become brittle over time?

Dunno, but i'm in the same position as you, it seems some mechanics pop the headlights off using these joints, rather than rotating the black bits as you're supposed to do.

The little white ball joint socket is available seperately, can't remember the part number but its only a couple of quid. The headlight adjuster kit doesn't include that part for some reason.

Had the same problem on a disco 2. Once the joint wears or is taken on and off a few times it never holds properly, mine kept coming off. Only solution was a new joint which did`nt cost much.

Got a load today, luckily I didn't need them all, bought 6 and only ended up using 2! So I have 4 spare, i'll be hanging on to 2 just in case, but if anyone else needs 2 i'd be more than happy to pop them in the post :)
