View Full Version : Speed & Security
I have installed anti virus and anti spy for some time now and it does mean the system takes longer to start up on XP then it performs quite well
However I have a friend who has the same anti virus and anti spy but his system seems to take for ever to start up - you can hit keys and nothuing happens for a while!
Any ideas guys or is their system too old now? :( or something else?
Thanks again in advance for help respected :)

All antivirus/spyware programs sap a computers resourses (some more than others though), so the slower the pc in the first place - the more it will suffer...
So it may be time for your friend to upgrade if it's slowing down that much?
If you visit the web, AVs are a nessesity unfortunately - unless they ever make the OS secure, which will probably never happen.
Another point though - my AV was making my pc slower and slower a while back, and it started to refuse to shut down properly - there was no virus present, so I un-installed and re-installed it - it now works much quicker again. If they have noticed degradation, this may be worth doing?

If its me your asking, I don't know, but I think if the memory is properly installed, the computer will use it as it needs it.
If you go to Crucial (I think www.crucial.co.uk (http://www.crucial.co.uk) but if not google it) they will assess how much memroy you have, how much and what type and at what cost you can add ( and you can order from them)
I improved my computer unrecognisably after installing more.
i tink the problem is called windows (microsoft) unreliable and inconsistant.
