View Full Version : What's the best item you have found in a cache?

I haven't found many caches yet, but have to say that the secondhand tat, crap CDs and toys are losing their novelty! Is there anything of real value out there? Whats the best thing you have found? Or am I missing the point, cos unless its a good walk, nice view or special place the cache contenets are always dissapointing.
Cache contents are actually immaterial to me, much prefer the hunt and the find rather than the treasure.
I understand where your coming from though, normally when i set out i have 2 lots of trades in my pocket, good ones and tat ones, what i find in the box rather dictates what i leave i'm afraid, although i have yet o leave anything "decent" as i've not found anything of equal value (normally much less value) in any of the cache's i've done so far.

Absolutely Roy, but there is always that little ray of hope of finding £50mil in the back of a 7.5tonne cache!

Mostly worthless tatt.. however, i have found a couple of nice wee things which struck a cord.
In my own caches, i put a variety of things some better than others, although, mostly things of no real value unless u need it. bottle opener, top trump box of cards, small compass, batteries.
In my 5* cache there is a cash FTF prize.. ;) to buy a few pints after finding it, the finder will need it.

AA batteries
mini torches
new boot laces
anti-bac hand cleaner spray
local tourist guide books/map
dog poop bags
surgical gloves
pack of playing cards
emergency whistle
Are some of the more useful things I used to like to start my caches off with.
Recently been find a series of caches where the owner has left me FTF prizes of 5 pound national book tokens which is nothing to be sniffed at. Last one had a new book in there.

Yes.
I've never come accross such a load of crap in most of the caches down here. As previously said, it's the hunt and achievment of locating the cache especially if it's been hard work getting there.
When I put out my caches I placed practical items in them - mini pliers, batteries, tie wraps and caribinas and was tempted to put on the web page only swap for other practical items. Blinkin marbles seem to be the main trading currency round here!! I've only traded once on the first cache as I believed it was the done thing and left a micro compass.

Most of what we find is old tat,and the find is the object of the exersise.
We did however find the keys(with coords) to a Je*P,but decided to take the little spinning top instead, purley for entertainment values :D :D
