Well spring clean time for the freebie and getting it back to like new..... After new HG and bits (engineer said had plastic dowel rods???), brake pads and wheel bearings, window regulator and blown dash bulbs, time to sort out the salt stained side steps.
Any suggestions on best way to clean them - they are the genuine LR aluminium side steps with the rubber end caps. Have a lot of spotting on them, looks like light salt corrosion - what will do the job and get them shiny again?

(engineer said had plastic dowel rods???) Someone in their wisdom ( ? ) decided to put plastic dowels as the locators for the gasket and head, when they designed the engine. They are now of steel and part of the kit when you have a gasket replacement.
Actually, you should feel quite Honoured, as you have probably one of the last engines that has survived Gasket Failure, fitted with Plastic dowels, up to now.:)

I have cleaned mine with a cream cleaner my Mum got from the Ideal Home Exhibition last year. I'll have a look at the tub and tell you the name 2moro, it's really good stuff and actually does what it says on the lid :D :D

If it's the same stuff as I use on the oven it's called astonish, mine look a bit tatty as well - I'll try that.

good stuff. Let me know the outcome, I don't want to blow the weekly shopping bill on different cleaning products!
