What type of oil is using in the PG1 manual gearbox of a freelander ?
The book says about texaco MTF 94 im not sure if this is a semi or full-synthetic one.
Also says when top-up to use engine oil 10W40 !!
Im using a full synthetic 75W90 texaco multigear S in both IRD and rear diff. and its time to renew the gearbox oil.

Now you asked the question... hopefully the answer is in here (http://www.caltex.com.au/products_oil_detail.asp?id=107) somewhere!

IMHO, I use an expensive fully synthetic oil, MT 90, (Manual transmission lubricant - 90) made by Red Line Oils, California for 70-90W (90, GL-4). It is available in the UK, however it is expensive. MT90 is an excellent product and for the 'robust' PG1, though not a sports gearbox, this oil provides excellent performance. It was recommended by a LR garage in Perth, Western Australia, who use Red Line oils in all services of LR vehicles. I change this oil about every two years, or about 60K miles.
Further - I use the Red Line "Light Weight Shockproof EP Gear oil" for the IRD that has a suspension of particles that cushion helical gears. I suspect that the particles are PTFE. Similarly, oil change is at 60K.
What one pays for, is what one gets...and a quality oil in the gearbox/IRD that costs $$ for the oil, and my time and labour to change, makes good sense to me.

Hi
Land Rover sell MTF 94 at all of the main dealers in there own 5L containers. Unipart also sell mtf 94 in 2.5l containers.
I understand that that this is a semi synthectic oil.
Do not use Syntrax 75/80 in the PG1, use this in the ird and rear diff.
At one time PG1 gear boxs always used 10/40 engine oil so would guess MTF 94 has a similar grade.
