Hi all, from a Landy nut in South Africa. I grew up in a Landy family and started out with a 93 Defender 110 200 TDI, changed to 96 Disco 300 TDi when our child was borne. Our family enjoys over landing holidays in and around SA and neighboring countries. Last year we bought a 4x4 trailer and had to upgrade to a 00 DiscoII V8 A/T as the 300Tdi was a bit underpowered. I do most of basic servicing and repairs my self and have found a number very useful articles in this forum.
Cheers

The trailer was one of 4 custom designed for hunting safaris built with the same wheel track and size of a Defender 90. The company that had them built only used 3 and I picked up the fourth for a bargain. Fully laden it weighs abut 1.5 Tons with water and fuel...etc. Besides the wight it tows like a dream. The TDI was fine on road however off road and especially in sand the TDI motor took strain.

Wayne,
we have loads of people that tow trailers in areas where I would rather not, like van Zyls pass, etc. Some of the new trailers are really, really nice, but I personally don't think I'll ever need one. What kind of trips do you do?

I first major trip was 21 day trip through Namibia- basically started up north and worked our way down south camping at all the small locally owned campsites. At the time I used a roof rack. Our friends in the second vehicle had a trailer and it is definitely more convenient & comfortable especially on long excursions. We always go with a minimum of two vehicles in a convoy for recovery situations. Most of the other trips have been short local excursions in SA and Mozambique. We are aiming to go up to the Okovongo Swamps next year.

Dit lyk my dat dit baie maklik sal wees om toppa rond te neuk. Hy sal beslis weet dat ons oor 'n Kiwi praat, maar hy sal dit mooilik vind om uit te vind wat ons van hom se :D

It's always the swearing that people learn first with any language. ... That, and salacious sex talk.... :D
Sout Africans tend to get a perverse satisfaction out of teaching poms that "Good day, how are you?" in Afrikaans is actually "Jy's pragtig. Kom ons vry" or something similar. :D
Ets, I like the comment about the hijacking of the thread. :D
Toppa, not to worry, we actully said nothing about you, just jiggling your chain a bit. ;) Kiwi's are actually quite high up on my tea list, WAY WAY WAY above Aussies, Belgians, Somalis, and Egyptians. (Do we have any Egyptian or Somali forum members? )
