:D I've been posting on here as Rover-less this last 3 weeks, set my sights on getting back in one by July....however......
Dad rings me earlier having spotted a '67 2a Diesel SWB in his local rag, with the immortal words 'If it's the money you're worried about then don't...it's here if you wanna borrow it'.....
I'm going to have a look in the morning with a torch and a BIG hammer.
I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck!:D

As a founder member of Dadbank Plc, it's still rather exciting waiting to see if Brian will end up with the IIa. He isn't my son! Having said that, my number two son has just got himself the sort of job where he might become a nett depositor as opposed to a perenial withdrawer.

Mental checklist mantra to be repeated over and over again until I fall asleep...
1. Chassis....outriggers, dumbirons, crossmembers, spring hangers, chassis no. and signs of any off-road damage
2. Running gear...check props for play, diff pinions for oil leaks, front swivels for pitting and oil leaks, check for signs of greasing, check springs checkstraps and bushes, outer hub oil seals
3. Bulkhead...hinge pillars, footwells, pedal box, steering box
4. Body....door frames, doortops, floors, seatbase, rear floor, rear bulkhead, fuel tank condition
5. Engine...is it cold? Check injector pump to see if there's any adjustment left in it..Check oil and water BEFORE it's started, check for oil leaks (hahahaha) when cold AND warm, check brake fluid etc etc as well before test drive
6. Starting...how well does it start? How much smoke is there and does it clear when it's warm?
7. Test drive...is synchro working on 3rd and top? Has the reverse detent spring gone (of course....)? Does it track straight, especially under braking?? Does it jump out of gear on the overrun? Does the overdrive work and stay quiet? Watch mirror for any smoke...Does it have more than a bit of play in the steering? Does EVERYTHING electrical work as it should? Any clutch judder or heavy bangs or knocks on drive take-up? Does the 4wd/low box work ok?? Does it get hot?
8. Apres-Test Drive...bonnet back up, check breather/rocker cover for any crankcase pressure, check for signs of head gasket failiure, check for any more oil/water leaks, get underneath and check again for any driveline oil leaks
9. Condition...make mental note of everything that needs repair/replacing, inspect state of wiring, check tyres, seats, glass, doorhandles, lights etc etc etc
10. Check all paperwork tallies
Go on....I'm sure to have missed something major....I'm getting paranoid

OK....part two! (this could run and run LOL)
1991 Disco 200Tdi 3dr, owned by mechanic the last 11yrs, serviced every 3k, new cambelt, alternator, water pump, swivels, excellent (apparently) chassis....7 months' tax and MOT...£1250
But 227k:o on the clock.
Having owned a couple of Series motors and a Rangey in the past I've got a reasonable idea what to look for with those, but a Disco? Apart from the rot issue, I haven't a clue. Presumably I should just check EVERYTHING...
Or should I just run in the opposite direction??:D
