Earth, My Friend by Peter Townsend. Hard to find but really excellent - 1956 and tells the tale of the well known group captain who was having some existential doubts and decided to drive a Series I around the world. Its also a great insight into what travelling was like then and international relations.

Actually to prepare his trip he spoke to the blokes from the Oxford and Cambreideg expedition - First Overland by Tim Slessor, which I havenīt read but looks like it will be good.

Third a collection of extracts of "great adventure writing from 1800 to 1900". Dead Reckoning edited by Helen Whybrow. Clearly not landie related but excellent none the less.

Anyone got anyother suggestions (I have, but Ive already read them;)).
