Sport & Manual lights flash together

Often when I start my TD5 Auto, the Sport and manual light flash together. I have to stop, take key out lock then unlock and restart engine before I can clear fault. What can cause this please? Book says refer to dealer.:confused:

Welcome to the forum Wayne, you should be able to get some sort of answer before too long. There's loads of people who really know what they are talking about when it come to Land Rovers.

I too have a TD5 Auto and I too had something of the same problem. When these symptoms occur, check the LCD screen and see if it repeats what gear selection you have and check also, the little red lights on the selector quadrant. When I had this, the auto box went into 'safe mode' (basically 3rd gear) and the 'electrical specialist' at the independant dealer had quite a frustrating time finding the reason why. In the end it was a bad earthing connection to the various gearbox switches, giving an inconsistent status return to one or other of the 'black boxes.' This earthing point is, I believe, on top of the auto box under the centre console. Of course it could just be one switch, so cycle the hi/lo ratio lever and see if it clears.

Had it into the dealer today, the nice engineer says it is a common problem. The connector to the electrics under the shift column sits on top of the gearbox, it somrtimes slip down and can get water ingress into the connector. Solution, clean out connector with WD40 dry off and reposition connector on top of box.
