Hi,

Just been for an MOT today...failed....ARGGGHH!

1. Exhaust Smoke: My own fault; should have driven hard before the test. Had a full service less than 2 months ago...it can't be the filters.

2. Front Suspension: 2 bushes are loose on the front axle Torsion/anti-roll bar assembly. The tester kindly marked them for me (yellow scribble in photo). LR refer to them as mounting rubbers which fit into a clamp plate each. Basically there's 2 rubbers on the large bar of the anti-roll assembly between the chassis and the aforementioned clamps. They need to be replaced. I've ordered the parts and now to the big question....is it a big job to replace these? Is there much tension on that bar? Could I possibly replace one side at a time or would the bar twist?

Any and all tips gratefully appreciated.

Depending on what bushes you buy will depend on how easy they are to fit, all land rover stuff is pretty straight forward, some bushes you need to have a hydraulic press to fit otherwise you'll struggle unless you have some big arm muscles :squeeze:. I find most of the polyurathene (spelling?) bushes will go in with just a length of studding a couple of nuts and some large washers. If worst comes to worst and you can't get them changed within the retest time just take the anti roll kit off, it won't fail if they aren't there, then get a garage to fit new bushes. I got a garage to fit some of the standard steel/rubber bushes in some radius arms and it only cost me the price of a pint. I bought a couple of the polyurathene ones from them and they fitted them for free. Its always best to change all bushes on the unit at the same time whether they need it or not

D,

Easy job, especially as you've got no guards in the way under there. There's no tension in that bar unless you park with one wheel higher than the other, so don't worry about that. Don't take the ARB's off, it's more of a job than changing the bushes, and the car will handle like a pig.

Simply unbolt the clamps and the bar will drop away (mind your head). You will need to do both at the same time. Take the old rubber bushes off and attach the new ones. I did mine last month (admittedly they were polybushes) and put a bit of washing up liquid on both the bar and the clamps to assist in lubrication when putting the new ones on.

Once the bushes are on, press the clamps back on and then the trickiest bit (which wasn't that hard) was to get the clamps back in their slots and the bolts in place.

Should take you no more than 30mins.

If you need any more then just shout.

BTW - Rivilou mentions the need for presses etc. You only need all that when you are doing the bushes on the radius arms etc. so don't worry.

Thanks a mill for the info!!

Much appreciated.

Parts should arrive tomorrow and I'll get stuck in then. Doesn't sound too difficult.

Take care,
