View Full Version : 750x16 tyres on Discovery
Anyone running this size on a Disco 1 without a lift kit???
Some sites seem to infer that you cant fit them without lift kit, some (http://members.shaw.ca/jbarge/tires.html (http://members.shaw.ca/jbarge/tires.html)) seem to suggest that you can just with 'camel cut' and adjusting the stops
Anyone done this or got any info - I have tried searching but didnt come up with much
Cheers
sorry i cant help much but i think youll need a lift.
im running 33-12.5-15 but ive got 2" lift and had to hack out the arches.

I have ran 7.50 x 16 on my disco 200TDI
I have a 2" lift kit from scorpion and only the rear of the rear arch caught a little on full articulation.
I was very happy with result,
now run 235/85/16 same height just a little wider,

Another option is 235/70-16:)
Hmmm - thanks for the replies...... from http://forum.difflock.com/discus/messages/5/87077.html (http://forum.difflock.com/discus/messages/5/87077.html) I can see there are some other options as well - so looing at 265/75 R16's as well
Im loathed to go the lift kit way as there seems to be a concensous that some cause more trouble than they are worth however want to make sure i get reasonable clearance
Any more folks got a view or can help ?

Problems with a lift kit ?
I'm on my 2nd 200TDi,
first was a 5 door, now on a 3 door.
Both lifted 2" (Sorpion kit) and I have no problems at all with steering or vibrations.
Using standard radius arms but lowered shock mounts front and rear for when I do venture off road.
I fitted Bronco spacers too but that was to help get some steering lock back.
I have heard about people with vibrations and all sorts of things, but my steering self centres, feels fine and I can only recomend a 2" lift and 235/85/16 tyres as a combo, great ground clearance off road and perfectly fine on road. I drive a company car during the week but of a weekend I drive the disco often just to go to Leeds or Manchester shopping with Lyn, no off roading just I like to drive the disco as its comfortable and I like the view and its not expensive to run on bio-diesel.
Yeh see what you are saying....
How much we talking for the Scorpion set up you have ?
im also running a 2" lift and ive had no problems at all..... scorpion stuff is not that great, my springs sagged within 6 months.
better off fitting Old Man Emu stuff.... can get it from www.gwynlewis4x4.co.uk (http://www.gwynlewis4x4.co.uk)

I run 245/75R16 TracEdge's on my Disco with a 2" lift... just a small rubbing mark on the rear arch lip and they catch on full left lock.
..did a trial last week - all sections cleared!

I can not fault the scorpion kit, have had it 12 months nearly, and i have a heavy duty winch bumper and a Husky winch (not light) on the front, in fact take the bumper and winch off (2 man job due to weight) and the car lifts about 1 1/2 ". I think Its like everything, you only tend to hear about all the bad things never the good, Scorpion do g'tee the springs will not sag, if they do they will supply a replacement. I opted for the Scorpion due to many good reviews I got from talking to people I met at Quarry days etc, but to be honest as you will hear good and bad things about most makes, e.g. I would not use Koni shocks on a car as I had a bad experience and no others that have.
OME, Bearmach, Scorpion all do decent enough kits. I paid about £500 (just under) for the scorpion set up but that was for springs ( I told them exactly what I was doing and what accesories I had), De-Carbon shocks, disclocation cones, extended brake lines, lowered turrets and all fittings and next day delivery, I do not need anyone to tell me "you can get it cheaper" I know the same set up in Bearmach bits is about £350 but I'm happy with what I got and can not fault the set up at all despite the abuse I give it !

As a passing thought
200Tdi Camels were run on 7.00 tyres (Michelin XCL, & then XZL)
Not too sure of the difference in overall height?
Yeh I remember reading that too. Not sure of the metric eqiv of that....
Remebering picures of the Camel motors, they seemed to run with 110 steel rims (pre cursor to wolf rims) as im guessing 700's need narrow rims.
I have a feeling that 750's are too narrow for standard Disco steel rims anyway so im looking at other sizes as my other post.
When I have some spare cash then perhaps look at lifting it a bit with a decent kit me thinks
I,m having a 2" lift fitted tomorrow and 265/75/16s fitted all round by end of week on Disco 200TDI...I will let you know how it all goes next week...
