at 197,000kms. Took about an hour and very easy to do.Flushed it out twice with petrol to find the petrol slightly discoloured(perhaps it had been done in the past a few times?)...put the hoseclips back on in such a way that I could access them from the top of the engine using a 6mm socket. Started the engine after waiting about 20 minutes for the petrol to evaporate with no ill effect...

I just had a wee peep at the Haynes Manual before I took the intercooler out(in case there were any hidden bolts/screws)....it really is a straightforward job.

Hi,
I did my intercooler about 2 years ago like you I had no noticable difference. However, recently took it to LR dealer for service (194k) and asked them to look into the poor performance and decreasing mpg. All they could say was that it is all ok, turbo boost, injection pump, etc, etc, but they flushed the intercooler pipes ("as part of the service, sir"), with no extra charge.
I also had the fuel and oil treatment that they are currently promoting (£30).
I have to admit, there seems to be a small increase in the performance, but the mpg appears to have improved.
Until now, having fitted various accessories such as roof rack and roof tent, and lots of extra weight, I don't remember seeing over 400 miles from a tank of fuel for a long time. Last tank was 416, I'm hoping for even more this tank full.

As with the 300tdi fella, they are the same intercooler! If you want something that'll clear your air intake system out nicely go buy a tin of 10k diesel, is incredible stuff and really does unleash lost power!
