Idle revs about 900, I think.
Stalling could be sucking air into the pipe anywhere from the tank forwards, could be the lift pump also.
I would try the simple things, like that first.

id guess that its something stopping it from getting fuel properly when you rev it... are the air intakes ok too?

Does the vehicle drive ok when its running?
Do you get any smoke from the exhaust? if so what colour and how much?
Are there any leaks at all from the fuel system?
Does the engine lose any water fromthe cooling system?

Have you checked the fuel pipe connections to the top of the tank???? You access these via the inspection panel in the boot floor. They are particularly prone to corroding and will draw air into the system. Take a look and give them a good liberal coating of grease and see if this helps.;)

Sounds like the local 4x4 centre are guessing as well
It got to be air getting sucked in somewhere try the fuel lines from the tank forward have you emptied the water trap ?
Its located in front of the rear axle on the drivers side
You could try taking the sender unit out to se if the pick up pipe is blocked with debri in the tank
All of these are cheaper than gettibg the fuel pump changed
Hope some of this might help

Sounds as though everybody is guessing!!!!
I think that Kev Beech may have hit the nail on the head with his response to your initial request. This is a guess also but I think you only need two words to possibly sort this one out. Lift Pump.;)
A friend of mine had a mare with his motor and had symptoms exactly the same as yourself, rough idle, poor starting, cranking over and over and over before it would fire, cutting out at traffic lights etc. etc. etc. etc. He was convinced it was air in the system too!!!!!!
A new lift pump and the problem was sorted.
Another tip: Brim the tank with fuel. The extra weight causes more back pressure to act on the lift pump and resolves the problem until the tank is low enough for the lift pump to "breath" ;) . Give this a go...............you've tried almost everything else.;)
