Well had fun this evening...

Decided to botch my boot floor, removed the tin worm infested original and got all the bare bits of metal coated in rust eater !

while I had good access I decided to clean out the sedimenter, it was well gunked up, anyway all clean and re-fitted, then I trya nd start the engine

It started with difficulty and then died,

So I decided to manualy prime the fuel filter, and guess what no amount of manual pumping of the lift pump will bring any fuel to the filter, and worse still there is no feeling of any resistance in the pump so i guess its shot, typical, bank holiday weekend and I need a lift pump...

anyone got a spare just knocking about near liverpool ??

try turnimg the engine over just a little , you might find the manual prime lever might have some resistance then, (something to do with the way the cam stops) dont know iff its any help but changed me filter on me 300, no priming lever on it . just brimmed the filter and turned over on the key, fired up easy, hope this helps .alan........

thanks for that,

cranked it a bit and now lever has resistance.

When I remove the bleed valve from the filter in engine bay and pump by hand I can get some pressure build up by covering hole with finger, when I remove finger after a couple of pumpsI hear a "hiss" so I assume the pump is fine, but no fuel !

I think I need to get under the car and look at that sedimenter and make sure all the gaskets are seated right and I have no air leak back there.

turned out to be a corroded pipe at the sedimenter !

4" of pipe a bit of fiddling and a bodge was sorted !

fixed and now starts first time like it should !

Hi.

If by 'quick bodge' you mean you've bypassed the sedimenter, don't. This is a common short cut but will lead to the water & contamination being drawn to the fuel filter which will clog up quicker and poor fuel will reach the fuel injection pump.

Cheers, Dan :)

LOL, no quick bodge is the corroded bit of pipe was cut off and i then fitted some fuel line over the metal remains of the pipe.

By-passing the sedimenter was harder to do than that !

I was of the opinion land rover fitted it for a reason !
