Having got used to paying usual low prices for parts for my tdi disco I've Just priced up a new exhaust for my 02 reg discovery Td5 -
:Yikes1:
AAAAHHHH!!!!!!!s**#, HOW MUCH?!!!!!
There must be a cheaper option- does anyone know of anywhere that supplies exhausts for Td5 discos at a decent price? - would consider performance/stainless exhaust or even a piece of bent drain pipe!!!LOL

I'm keeping a close eye on this thread. From what I've seen, S/S exhausts are almost as cheap as mild steel, and that's expensive.

At risk of intruding, I've just checked Paddocks. They charge £340+Vat for mine. £200 more for the more recent DIIs. Around 3X what I used to pay for the DI. Not sure how this can be justified, as the parts are virtually the same.

Haven't had time to have a good look round for prices yet - just checked paddock and couple of random others. Paddock were cheapest(as always) at around 540pounds!:shakehead! (as already kindly mentioned above)
Seems rediculously expensive.
On my 300tdi disco I had a Non cat ('off road use only' :nonono: naughty, I know, but it didn't smoke) system from paddocks which cost just over 100quid for the complete system!
Admittedly if I'd gone for the cat version it would've been an extra 200pounds or so but thats still nowhere near 540.
Mine doesn't need replacing just yet thankfully. Glad I started looking now - gives me a bit of time to have a good look round at the options.

Prices are about the same here in NL. That excludes fitting I assume?

I have a non Cat`99 TD5. The system is still sound so the original does last a bit..thats nearly seven years on mine, so maybe you don`t need to panic just yet, by the time you need one they will be down to 150 quid or so..hope.
I asked at my local dealer and mechanics there said they didn`t see many replacements due to corrosion only damage, so if they are not yet being bought in any quantity then the prices will be high.

By all means correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought all cars since mid 1990's era were legally obliged to have a CAT fitted which would mean that yours has been replaced with a non-CAT version at some point?
Mine is corroded around the centre silencer but I'm hoping its going to last another few months yet. I don't like to just replace one section of exhaust at a time as I've invariably found that the rest of the system needs repacing sooner or later anyway so I prefer to repace the whole system at once.

Cats are not obligatory, it's the emissions that are obligatory. If the engine is clean enough without (and the Td5 was, when it was released) then it doesn't need one. It was introduced on later models because the clean Td5 was not clean enough when the emissions were tightened up further.

Quite correct..in fact it was a selling point for me. I thought that they were fitted to later models because they were needed for the export market and LR couldn`t be bothered to produce two versions.
Does anyone know if the non cat version feels any different to the cat fitted models? Mine always went very well and even better now with a Van Akken mod on it.

Thankyou guys, I stand corrected.
Didn't realise early td5's didn't have CAT's, guess I just assumed that they did.:banghead2
