Background:
Disco 300tdi 1995. This happened over a period of about 1 month. Started with small puffs of white smoke. Had been through some water so put it down to water in the air intake. White puffs continued. She seemed to be using a lot of coolant (required filling regularly) Overheated yesterday, needed more water, now constant white smoke and little water left. Im about to order a head gasket but want to be sure thats the cause. Thought it was an airlock first (no heat through ventilation) so flushed and refilled the system. No joy...more white smoke. NO signs of oil in the coolant or water in the oil but with smoke+loss of coolant only thing I can think is head gasket.....any ideas?

I would put it down to the head gasket, or worst case that the head has distorted.
