I think the 'new' figure quoted in the last Budget is for new motors, running under the current emissions groupings. I believe all we'll see on the older ones is a gradual annual increment.
Are they going to charge me £240 for my '76 Morgan? I don't think so - I doubt there's any emissions figures for it anyway.

Just had my renewal for the Rangie, it is £93.50 for 6 months or £175 for the year-same as last year.(it's an 89 V8)
My Honda Civic was £115 but I don't know what the new price will be as it has until Oct! It is low emission being a 2002 model.
Wifeys 53 Reg Frontera was £175 so may go up.

I once heard that one year the road tax income was 33 billion...but only 3 billion was spent on the roads.(if the mans telling me lies I`m telling you lies)...does anyone know the income against spending figures nowadays???.....
If its not equal questions need to be asked???
:D
If its not equal questions need to be asked???
:D
I don't think it ever has been equal......I remember my old man telling me years ago (don't know how true it was) that when road tax was introduced, a lot of the money went to the railways in subsidies.......Ultimately, as with any other tax, it just goes into the big pot to be spent on whatever.........Do we expect tax on cigarettes to pay for treating smoking related illnesses?.......

I see where you`re coming from but eg. all the toll monies that are payed on the autoroutes here, goes back into the upkeep of same, hence clean up-to-date services etc etc ....
I see what you mean but with the vast income with the car tax you should expect marble kerbs with slick smooth roads and no potholes!!!:D
Car tax is the one thing that is easy to keep track of..ie one central account for the monies to be placed in and simply taken out to manitain the roads......thats what it is for...and should be for nothing else..
Of course don`t forget the tax on fuel......they are using that on other things(same as booze and cig`s)..so keep the car tax for roads??...
What about just having a fuel tax where you pay directly for the amount of road use? The wee old lady using her car once a week does`nt get hit for a big bill???..... Hard to meter though??....
All that to say it is a massive amount of money to try and find if there are 2 or 3 cars in the household for the roads that you locally use to remain the same year after year....

Got my reminder through for the Suzuki the other day, £110 for a year, less than 10 quid a month, which I ain't got a prob with, and the Landy is £0 for a year which is even better:)
I'ts the way fuel prices seem to be getting out of control that concerns me:(
cheers, Tim
