Wouldn't have any effect on plumes of white smoke. If the needle went into the red when you overheated, the sensor is working :p if it didn't, you need a new one

Cheers for the help guys. Latest news....when Ed posted I was back inside but that was only after a great deal of swearing, blood loss and anti-freeze showers! Why did LR put the most important bolts in the most knuckle skinning locations?!! Also the Haynes manual: refer to Ch. 6....then refer to Ch. 4c part 1...now ch. 7d part 3......i guess I should have just read the whole f***ing book! Still, at least i managed to confuse the dog...he spent 2 hrs looking at the disco waiting to go for a walk!!
Left it needing the inlet and exhaust manifold to come off. All is well so far....apart from the glow plug that just spun in its housing until the fog cleared from my brain!....hopefully (tomorrow) ill take the head off and........hey presto...a nice flat head needing nothing more than a new gasket.....here's praying! I'll probably end up posting again soon to ask where to buy several new bolts that get lost in what is the bermuda triangle of the engine bay!! (they never quite fall all the way through!!)
