View Full Version : We got it !

Picked up the little baby last night, I drove it most of the 90 miles home .. the only thing I could feel wrong was that every bit of green I drove past it wanted me to veer off onto it ! :buck:
Managed to force myself to stay on the tarmac, at least for a while :) the other half drove it the last ten miles, and even she got out smiling .. don't remember a car having that effect since the mini's we used to have. When we swapped she did say 'It's quite nippy isn't it ..' ... and I wasn't even spanking it that much ! just getting used to the best gearchange points on the TD, been a while since I drove one regularly.
Has brought up a few things I need to look at, but nothing serious. Have a weekend of fiddling planned though ..
The only bad point, she's kept it today since the kids always mess up cars and her MPV is still for sale - I'm forced to drive that when I'm on my own. Humbug. Sooner we sell it or trade it in the better now ! then at least I can get a shot at the Freebie on a daily basis.
I can see a great future ahead of us ... :yay:

Great, glad to see that you like it. I think after the clutch going ont he Rover, and me not been able to fix it, might mean we can start to look for a freelander, though for us it might be the three door version. Time will tell.
I note that you said maybe trade in for the MPV, well you could always get yourself a nice Series Landie, pre 1975 I think, then you have no tax and cheap limited mileage insurance.... for the times when you are left with nothing else to drive. :p
Sorry, putting ideas into your head.... :buck:

Thanks.
If you look around you'll find the 1.8 petrol Freebies are surprisingly cheap, and the dealers told me the 3 doors are usually cheaper too. Not sure why as you usually pay more for the 'convertible' aspect ..
Note sure the wife will like the idea of a Series for the other car :) I'll let her pick it anyway, that way I can make her drive it most of the time too ! :yay:

You might think that, but you never know. When I got the series one, and she drove it herself, she said, "right, okay lets get a 90 for our trip to Romania, as this is fun to drive, and then we can share the S1, I drive, you repair!! as the 90 will be your car"

Took a few quick pics last night.

Minor issues to resolve like the ICE setup we want, spare keyfob and key, security codes etc, but I'm going to the dealer at lunch to sort most of those.
The stereo is the R770 rad/cass which is OK, I can get a CD changer for it from a friend who has a spare, BUT the display is in the clock (which I didn't realise when I bought the car as I already have a spare clock !) and it's damaged. So unless I can fix the clock/display or replace cheaply it's not worth fitting the changer as I have a spare MP3/CD player already. Halfords reckon it's ISO and no adapter is needed, so I may just pull it out and see.
Cheers.

If you have to buy the keyfob thingy, use e-bay, far cheaper, and the re-programming costs about £20.00 or so... was quoted £90 buy fob and re-code.

I've lined up a spare from a contact already :) cheaper than e-bay even ..
I'll have a look what's in there too, before paying LR to program it. IIRC the code for some of these code-hopping remotes is in the public domain and it's stored on a chip in the fob which can be reprogrammed with a bit of electronics knowledge ..
Cheers, Si

Me and electronics... pizz pizz pop !!! whisper of smoke rises from componets... seem to always carry a large amount of static electricity around with me, either that or I am still discharging electrcity from the last shock I had.... :p (note to ones self, must check power rating, 240 into 12v fitting does not work...)
Had chance to look at the pics, pretty smart looking Freelander, :mickymous
Hope you have many years of happy motoring... :yay:

If you really do intend to take it into the rough stuff, take the skis off the sides! Those side steps might look good in Tesco's carpark but on a Freelander off road they can catch on things and do BIG damage to your undeneath! Also they make cleaning the underneath more difficult when you get back on the tarmac too.
Enjoy your new baby.

Taking the ski's off of course ;-) looks much better and was pretty shocking how badly they had been put on. 2 bolts sheared, one x-threaded and 2 hanging loose. There's only 8 in there total ! mind you 2 of the others needed the grinder to cut them out ..

Looks a lot better without the side steps. I can see a item for sale coming up on ebay.... :p
