I had a slipping clutch a while back, not always, mainly showed itself in 3rd/4th/5th gears, I'd pulled a mate out of a bog he'd really got himself stuck in, I told him he wouldn't make it! The clutch was fine for about 3-4 days then started slipping, I took it out and the surface was shiney, like a glaze, mind you there was a strong smell of burning clutch while I was trying to pull him out, it even ended up killing the starter motor too. That tow cost me about £200 for a new starter and clutch, it would have cost me around the £450 mark if I hadn't done the work myself.
Nice disco you have there!;)

Any ideas?? What sort of mileage has it done and under what conditions does the clutch slip?

Bite the bullett!
Get the oil seals changed at the same time.

I had the same clutch slip problem recently. Turned out to be a duff slave cylinder. No external leaks.
Thankfully the garage had a look at that first and sorted it for me, rather than change the whole clutch at serious £££.
You may be lucky but at that mileage it's probly doubtful (sorry to build your hopes then dash them!).

Any ideas of price both diy and pro??
if you are having the clutch out at that mileage have the flywheel face checked as well, had a similar prob new clutch made no difference turned out to be high spots on flywheel
it's worth checking the flywheel face at that mileage, mine had high spots
sorry about the double post first one never showed first off

Sorry to say this, but when I had that ocassionally (on a Passat estate I had in those days) I carried on in hope.
Of course it finally packed up, without a lot of warning, 100 miles from home, luckily a garage in Doune did it while I waited (in the local hostelry).
