Chilled cubby box

Was talking to a guy and his wife who had a similar Disco to myself the other day in the service station. Was one of those rare days currently when it was hot and he showed me that he had routed a pipe somehow to his cubby box in the center which in the summer (when you would be either using cold air or even air con chilled) gave him a cool box. Sat in there sure enough were a couple of cans and a few chocolate bars. He claimed he had lined it on the outside with polystyrene and even had a small drain pipe for any condensation or spillages..

Anyone else done this or think it's a half decent idea ???

Forgive the pun but it sounds like a "Cool" :afro: idea !.

It's a built in feature on my Merc, the centre cubby box is split into a smaller upper compartment and a larger bottom compartment. The bottom part has a vent from the ventilation system, it blows cold air into it, great for keeping cans and sarnies cool. We have a Scenic at work, that has the same sort of thing too.

The only problem is in the winter, it blows hot air into it!! I left a chocolate bar and an aerosol can in their once.:o

Hi guys,

I used to work for a heavy plant hire company, and in their 25ton dump trucks, there was a little compartment which was big enough for a sandwich box, or four or so cans of coke, which was connected to the aircon system to keep things very cold (almost freezing) and at the flick of a switch it would turn into an oven to heat up your pies/ pasties!
I guess it must've got a heating element in it cos it got quite hot.

It'd be good to find out if there's something like this available for landrovers.

There are lots of electric coolboxes on the market, many can also heat as well. I have one in the workshop that I use to warm aerosols in the winter.

They take ages to get really cool though and will flatten your battery if left on overnight.:o Dont ask!!
