The Welsh valley's smell like a burger van convention, there's so many people topping up with Mazola :D.
Anyone tried this in a Td5...most of the people I know running on veggy oil are riding around in old bangers....mechanical fuel injection maybe works OK, don't know about electronic.
Tesco's basic veggy oil is about 45p/l...a trolleyload of that every week would take some filling , even on 1/2 and 1/2 :p

i ran a vauxhall astra estate on sunflower oil that was three parts oil and one part diesel it ran like a dream for 12 months used to cost about 3p a mile and never had any probs if youve got a diesel heater fitted like a lot of newer cars have there cying out to be run on oil these days!!! and get the oil/fuel mix as close a consistancy to diesel as you can i dont think you,d have any problems i know two people who have been running cars that are only 2 years old on oil that havent had any probs but they have got diesel heaters fitted, i think the major problem with oil is when its cold and the oil thickens. i know this isnt any advice just thought id ad a view. chris.

One of the LR mags covered chip oil recently and advised if i remember right, not to use chip oil on TD5's.
I'll have a look for the article and let you know which mag its in, unless anybody else knows?

Older diesel engines with Bosch rather than Lucas/CAV pumps seem to run OK on veg oil or at least a veg oil / derv mixture. The mix depends on the person and car, a mixture of 10% should be no problem at all, 20% is OK but 50% or more you may need a heater in colder weather.
Modern Common rail or CDi engines do not seem to like the veg oil, they operate at much higher pressures. So far I have not heard of anybody running a common rail diesel on it.
I know people who have run, Mercedes, Transit, Disco's and Volkswagens on veg oil with no ill effects other than the aroma.

Remember you still have to pay tax on that and I think its about 47.1 pence per litre on new oil.
It you recycle old WVO into Bio Diesiel then tax is only about 27.1
This is a good web site Vegetableoildiesel (http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/)
All the stuff I have read says no the TD5 even if you put in a second tank and pre heater. But search the net loads of sites to look at to many for me to add here.

I've heard that a 50:50 oil/derv mix runs fine in the summer but in the winter you need to lower the percentage of oil to around 25%. Some even report better mpg and performance on an oil/derv mix, lets face it, the person who invented the diesel engine originaly ran it on peanut oil!!
The only problem I can see with it in the hastle of actually sorting out and paying the duty, a bit of a pain to have to do it every month. Although I must admit is is very tempting to shove the odd 5 litres of veggie oil in every time you fill up just to save a few pennies!
I've been looking at using bio-diesel straight from the pump. As they use recycled oil, which by the way isn't a good idea to do yourself as it has to be really finely filtered, less money goes into the governments coffers. It is also kinder to the environment obviously. My nearest supplier is about 15 miles away though, so I dont know it would be worth while financially to do it. Been trying to find out the price of it per litre, but don't seem to be able to get any info on the web re: prices.

When I was farming a few years ago, a company were trying to get us to grow a variety of oilseed rape (Synergy I think). Their plan was for us to grow it, they would buy it off us, process it into a diesel fuel altenative and we would buy back the fuel we needed to run our tractors etc.
The scheme had great potential but never took off, I wonder why.............................perhaps something to do with the large oil companies maybe.....:(

Me and hubby were talking about this the other day.
Rapeseed oil is one of the best to use to fuel you vehicle as it is fairly thin. What does it need to grow it?....Plenty of sun! Therefore many of the third world countries would be the best places to grow it.This would be good for their economy and it a renewable fuel source therefore better for the environment. So why not do it?.........Because the oil producing countries would loose out?...I wonder?

What does the law state, if your caught by the ministry running your motor on veggy oil, would your car still be impounded and a hefty fine as you would if caught using red diesel, or just have to pay the tax on the veggy oil in your tank and a slap on the wrist like ive been told, but i dont know what anyone else thinks but with fuel prices constantly soaring and us being taxed to death, sometimes you have to think its got to be worth the risk!!!!!!!.

I'm not sure about chucking chip fat in my engines, but Rape Oil works well.

Anything used as a Fuel for a Road going vehicle is subject to a Tax, ( whatever the taxable rate). You are just as likely to have it Confiscated as if you use Red Diesel, it is still Contravening the Law.

Garage in Manchester sell 100 biodeisel from the pump and it is less than normal DERV they also sell a 5% blend which is what you will normally find.
Look here for your nearest Filling Stations (http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/)
Some places are selling it for more than normal DERV (rip off) problem is we need more people to use it so more is produced then it will get cheaper.

The chip oil you buy in the shops which is labled "vegetable oil" is mostly rapeseed oil and suitable for mixing with diesel.
