This was the first telltale sign of the gasket failing to begin with.

Thanks to Pete H on this forum for posting how to do this.
Did you reuse the old bolts or replace them with the M8x120(if I remember correctly) as specified in the manual?

When buying the gasket from my local independant dealer I asked him if I had to buy new bolts and he told me I did`nt need to.
After removing them I could see I did`nt need to. They are only torqued to 25NM and are steel going into alloy,so in my opinion it is not necessary to use new ones as there is no great force needed. A smudge of silicone on the threads helps prevent steel/alloy corrosion for the next time
The 3 centre bolts at the waterpump were corroded slightly,so I wire brushed them and put a smudge of waterproof grease on the non threaded shaft of them.
Also,I forgot to mention(a tip from my dealer too)when putting on the viscous fan again, when tightening it,you only need to `smack gently` the end of the spanner with the palm of your hand. It will stay nipped up at this,as the fan turns in the opposite direction from the threads, thus keeping it held on.When I removed it,it was very easy to take off after the last time my dealer had taken it off to do the timing belt a year ago.
