View Full Version : Upgrading driving lamp H2 bulb

I have a pair of LR driving lamp mounted on the front nudge bar. The lamps came with H2 55W bulbs. These are not bright at all. Thinking of changing to H2 100W. Is the existing wiring that came with the lamps adequate for 100W? Is the lamp able to take the extra heat from 100W bulb? I am more concerned with the lamp than the wires as I can rewire with a relay with thicker wires, if needed. Appreciate any advice.

Changing to 100w bulbs is not a problem, no heat issues etc etc, all you need to do is literally double the fuse ie, 15 to 30 and they will work fine, | I did it as soon as I got the beast, cos as you say 55w are not too bright.

A 30 amp fuse is bit too high (probably burn out the wiring before the fuse blew) To find the right size fuse use this equation W = I x V where W is the wattage of the bulb, I is amperage draw and V is the voltage. As we know the Wattage (100W) and we know the Voltage (12V) we get: 100 = I x 12
Now if we transpose the equation to find I we get: I = 100(W) / 12 Volts which give us 8.3 Amps. Dont forget that is just for 1 bulb so double the Amps to give 16.6 Amps. Take the next highest fuse rating which would be 20 Amps. Make sure that the relay and wiring can handle that sort of current (the instructions should give you a rating for them)
Im currently (no pun) running 130 Watt H2's in my spots with no problems at all

many thanks. sounds good. i'll pop in a 20A fuse and chg the bulbs to 100W. :)
