Shockers and coils ???

Would putting new shockers and coils on my 1992 tdi disco be a job a novice could tackle at home or is it a garage job ? Also would this improve the ride alot ie- cornering :) .

in my case the shocks improved cornering a lot......plus i changed the tyres too :D
