As the thread says the air con was acting strange today with cold then normal, turn it off for a while cold then shortley after normal ,did the usual check and the cold (air con)pipes not cold and the fans not going either,it`s not been degassed or regassed since feb 2002 so its about time,i`m just hopeing its only that, have 3 questions:-(1)should the fan run as soon as the aircon is switched on?
(2)does the gas evoporate hence its about time it was done?
(3)if it was empty of gas would this stop the fan from coming on?

will go and see the aircon guy in the the morning for a service:(

Just had my air con regassed. Cost £75. Seals tend to dry out and shrink if not used for 10 minutes per week. Air con now working fine.

i believe the systems all leak due to the seals, so need to be re gassed on an as needed basis, my old vectra used to get regassed about 3 times a year, and my old new mondeo once a year. both cars had it on all the time, so i don't know if that made it better or worse, or if it didn't matter

Mine not been regassed yet and the car is of jan 9th 2001, the cold that comes out seems still the same as from day 1. (But the A/C together with the heating are imo the two weak points on the Hippo:D ).

Anti-smell? My aircon/heater blows out a smell reminiscent of rats p*ss:eek: Is this a 'feature'?

£75? Are we getting ripped-off or is it a tedious job?

Don`t recomend top up cause you need to know how much lubricant as well as refidgerant is in there,so its a complete empty and refill(measured quanties),it sounds expensive but thats it,by the way it also recomended that the receiver/drier be replaced they are about £25 so it`s £75 +£25+vat:o

he says how much:D

Hi Will,
If you search the forum, you'll find a conversion that Simon did to improve the heater output

Hi spikes,

Thanks but if I'm remembering correctly I believe this was for an L-series diesel, not for the Td4. Something to do I believe in modifying the flow of the cooling water to have the engine-->heatermatrix pass via the toptube and out of the matrix through the lower one but too difficult I think to achieve that on a Td4.
