I think Rover is really wanting to be back with 4x4's again going by the appearance of the new streetwise... http://www.mg-rover.com/content/Rover/en_GB/Rover2/~jsp/model_Streetwise_insideinfo.jsp

I think that they are still tied to the original deal with BMW though which prevents them from installing a 4WD system....

Isn't that just a raised Rover 200?

It is a raised 200/25, and only has 2wd, shame really...
It looks better with the colour coded bumper, though that might be onnly available on the MG version, not sure yet.

At least they are trying... :p

Looks like a cross between a Rover 200 and the Volvo/ Audi AWD.

Maybe they had better wait until they can sort out a real 4WD again?

Depends when the agreement with BMW runs out that prevents them from installing a 4WD system, it can't be that far away from some of the items I have been reading.
They have been testing out a new 4WD system on the Rover 75, to give added performance, and they have been looking at the Tata 4x4, and have produced some mock up pics of what could be a rover 4x4... now would this worry Land Rover?

Unless Rover is just doing this to spice things up a little, and try and get a little revenge on BMW... :buck: which I could not blame them for...

Anything to have a go at BMW must be a good thing - especially if it affects the reps in their 300's

And the new Metro replacement is to be built in India.

Well, Alan, all I can say is, if BMW had not bought Rover, things would be a lot better and different, that is for sure...
The current Rover 200/25 was originally the metro replacement and was due to replace the metro in 1994, just at the time BMW took over, and they changed it, as they decided it was too big for that... :snarl:
IMHO, BMW screwed Rover badly, tried to change it to be just like them, and of course they wanted the 4x4 system knowledge for their future 4x4's of course...
I just hope Rover can get back on track, however they can, and I will be having a test drive of the new City Rover as soon as I am allowed... I don't care it is built in India, as long as it is built to be a Rover, and that I will find out once I test drive it. Like all things, I may be disappointed, then again I may be surprised...

Quote Rover "It has the tough, confident presence of a car that's in its element in the urban jungle - with feisty performance, sprightly handling and loads of versatile interior space."

Should of read :
"It has the looks of a Rover 200 that has had an accident in a big plastic bumper factory, the owner will be thankful that it has feisty performance to speed away from the urban jungle before people can get their heads around what they have just seen, in that very event they can be assured of plenty of interior storage space to hide in!"

Somehow i dont think Land Rover will be bricking it!
