got my freelander tuesday and havent been out of it long enough to post!!!!

my cheeks are killing me from all the grinning!!!!

gonna take some getting used to after the astra though i mean for starters its got power steering and its so high up compared to the car.

one question is there a way to test the alarm on the freelander because in the book it says that there is a sensor somewhere above the drivers door but i cant find that and wondered if its only on the five door version???

'my cheeks...' I thought you were going to say the seat was uncomfortbale!:buck:

Great feeling isn't it, I just wanted to sit in my defender all day when I got it (still do actually, but I think the men in white coats would cart me off). You'll appreciate the higher driving position in many situations.

I don't know whether your freelander would have the same alarm system as my defender, but I know the interior sensor can be in different places. Mine is at the top of the drivers door, but I guess they can be anywhere round the headlining or perhaps lower down around the area where the driver sits. I guess one way to test it would be to leave someone sitting in the car, set the alarm and get them to start moving around...? [and cover their ears if it goes off.]

The alram operates in two ways though - switches on the doors, bonnet etc, and the movement sensor. it is possible to set the alarm but with the movement sensor disabled, so the previous owner may have done that - your book should tell you how to re-set it but if it doesn't, shout and we can see if the defender instructions work on a freelander.

I suppose you could be your own guineapig, just get in shut the doors and set the alarm, then start moving around. At leas if you do it yourself you've got the fob and you can turn it off sharpish before your eardrums go

They're a very nice bunch on here madsteve, I've learnt tons and had a lot of laughs. it's quiet today cos everyone's out in the sun enjoying their landies probably, whereas I'm the saddo stuck at his desk supposedly working.

I used to live in East Sussex, I bet it's hot down there today

I don't think you can see my alarm sensor, but it definately works :) Watch the red LED on the dash, that flashes differently depending on what's set on the alarm - check the handbook though, it does quite a few different things ! basically though if you lock with the keyfob it will go into max security mode, with the key will only set the door/bonnet/boot locks - it will still immobilise it though.

Only the remote or the correct code entered in the drivers door will remove the immobiliser. They are pretty secure .. too much in fact, first week we had ours the battery holder in the remote broke and stranded my wife as the spare key in the lock was too tight to turn easily and enter the 4 digit code (which fortunately I'd _just_ got that day). I had to drive out to her and re-mobilise the car with my key. Bought a second keyfob pretty quick after that <g>

Keep enjoying it .. I love mine ! only had it 4 weeks and I'm hooked ..

Blimey so it's even more compicated than the Defender one.

You've reminded me of the first week we had our rover 100 - only had one fob and that was very dodgy. One morning couldn't 'unset' it from immobilised state. Local Rover dealer came straight out and sorted it, no charge, which I thought was pretty impressive as the car was 3 years old and had no warranty - but then they did get 70-odd quid off me for a new fob, re-programming etc :p

I think you'll find that you can also turn the key in the lock twice and it will also be set to max security.

Also..... If you own a 3dr. Don't leave yr Targa top open as sometimes this can set your alarm off.

Also MadSteve

Dont forget if you keep the button on the handset pressed in, on opening and disarming the freelander, you know what happens dont you.................

THE BACK WINDOW DROPS, handy on a nice day but not if its in your pocket on a rainy day.

by the way it might have been hot sunday but it is scorching today makes you kind of glad that the landys got aircon:p

sorry people but i am afraid i have got yet another question.
does everyone els who owns a 3door have a great big armrest/storage box thing in the middle of the back seats?

does it come out if you want to put the seats down?

looked in the manual but it does not seem to mention this and so i thought that maybe it was and added option?

On the Defender you can avoid this by setting the alarm without interior protection, so it only goes off when a door is opened, and the engine is immobilised, but the interior sensor is disarmed. I imagine you can do s.th similar on a freelander?

Pracitally need to do a course just to learn all the different alarm options on these things!

You can still put the seats down on the 3 door with the 2 rear seats, yes. I know because I bought 5 wheels off someone recently and he had them in his 3 door like that with the back seats down :)
