View Full Version : Cuts out during downpour

Hi All,
The latest of many problems in my love/hate relationship. Heading up the A1, no problems, and early into a sudden downpour the engine just died. Pulled onto the hard-shoulder, left it a while and it re-started quite happily. A bit further on - more heavy rain and it started to get eratic. This is the second tim that this has happened - both during downpours. I have looked inside the hood - no signs of water getting in.
Hope that someone can help.
Thanks.

Damp HT system? Check for shorting, run it in the dark & look for sparks from HT leads, check dizzy cap etc.

Thanks for response. It has worked fine over the damp winter months. The previous time that this happened was in early spring, and only during a downpour (the rare occassion where you need your wipers on the third setting). I will check it out though.

The water is affecting the electrics as landiemac said "Damp HT system" do as he said and check the dizzy cap @ night if it has a hairline crack you will see the sparks from it and also the HT leads maybe goosed ? its a process of elimination, ie: new dizzy cap or HT leads
