Well slowly getting used to my newly aquired M red 300tdi - after the 2.5N/A 90 its like a Rolls Royce.

My only niggle is that when going from 1st to 2nd and then to 3rd (but not as bad) you have to keep the pedal down and be very precise and leisurly. If I change like in my car or the 90 for that matter its changes with a nice crunch?

Is my gearbox knackered and if so how long can I expect it to last?

What can I do and how much can I do it for?

Should I just learn to drive her with this way of changing gear?

The disco has done 116K mostly with full service history?

they are known to be a bit of a pain as you say. both mine are the same . check the oil. iff its red it may have auto trans fluid of some kind in it. its ok . but should have mtf oil in it. there is some more detail somewhere about it, difflock do a fully synth oil . which is ment to improve things alot, many people swear by it. check there site . good luck alan......

Cheers Alan

Feel a bit more comfortable now, All Landies have their quirks. When I got my 1st series 3 I was almost in tears at the way the gearbox changed but after a few mths I was fine - suppose the disco is no different.

I will see about changing the oil as it can't hurt anything, is it as painfull to do as my 90 was?

Gary,

I think it's a trait of LRs. My LT77S is slow, except 2nd where the synchro has gone - double declutching IS quicker...

Your R380 should be better than the LT77, but there's not a lot in it. The corect oil helps, but it's no 'sports' box :o .

Cheers,
