View Full Version : How long..........
My laptop takes forever from pressing the on button to being in a position to do anything - 6 - 7 minutes. It never used to be like that it was up and running within a minute. As it's happened gradually I haven't really been aware of it. Once up and running it operates at it's usual speed.
All the usual crap has been removed removed using some tool or other but is there anything else that may be causing this slow starting?
Grateful for any information or pointers.
Cheers,
AJ

When did you last defrag your HD AJ? ... it might speed things up a bit, also it may be you need youR cookies etc cleaned out ... try CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) (Crap Cleaner) a free utility than does that & more :)
Cheers pal.
It has been been a while since I defraged it and I'll give that cleaner a go.
It just seems to be loads of activity on the hard drive which lasts forever.
Cheers

Just learnt this trick-its made my laptop as quick as it was when i got it.I was about to go and buy a new one!
Go to Start menu, then run-type in box msconfig then click ok.box will come up,click on startup-you will get a list of all the programs that auto run when computer is started, some are needed(do a google search for msconfig and you will find which ones you need, some may be specific to your computer),but most dont need to be constantly running in background, and will slow it down drastically not just on startup.
When you have de-selected the ones not needed, click apply, then you will need to resart, when it restarts another box will come up,click "dont show me again"
Job done-it will be like new!
I would advise maybe doing it in a few stages if your not sure.
If you google it im sure someone will have given a better written more concise guide!
Good luck.:)
Now that sounds more like it.
I'll get googling.
If you don't see me online for a few days you'll know I've c0cked it up.
Cheers,

Forgot to say, some of the programs on the startup list are not very easy to identify ie quick time is qttask,if you dont recognise something google it as it appears in list.ie qttask.
Just disabled about 50% of the list that I confidently knew were not required and restarted it. Started in half the time.:D I'll check out the other programmes and hopefully cut the time down even more.
Much appreciated.
