where I can get a guide for a 1990 discovery? You know like a user manual that goes through dash switches etc?

Someone mentioned on another thread there are PDF versions on here.. but i can't seem to find them.

Thanks for your help. ;)

Although handy to have, the manual that downloaded is a tech manual.

I'm after a handbook / user guide type that would have come with the car orginally. Just a copy of the dash control switches would do really.

Will def be referring to the other manual though thanks! :)

Jane

No dodgy stuff here http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp - this is the official Land Rover site for owners where you can download PDF versions of that kind of stuff......

Have fun

Thanks ;) and to all the others too!

I have accessed the one for 1998 as that seems to be the closest year, but it's only the Index page.

Is this a site i have to order them from?

I'm a bit confused.

try this Purple Hugs

click on discovery
then click on owners handbook
and then click on Discovery Owner's Handbook - English RHD Markets Only
this will then download the pdf file in adobe
all you do then is click in adobe on the left Controls & instruments or any others that are there.

but strange there is only the 1998 version though.

You can now buy an official Land Rover CD containing the 1990 owner's handbook, as well as parts books and service manuals. £14.95 including VAT which I think is an absolute steal. Available from Dingocroft (http://shop.dingocroft.co.uk/acatalog/CDs.html) .

Meanwhile, I have a copy, so if there is any specific info you are after, just shout :)

thanks Bernie. All we need at the moment is the internal control switches - to know what's what. I've worked out most of them but there are a few we're not sure of. And can't seem to get our spots to work, so wanted to make sure there wasn't a switch we were missing before we buy new ones nad re-wire them. ;)

Thanks for any help. I'll add the cd to our shopping list though! hehe

The book doesn't show a switch for spotlights at all, so it must be an aftermarket thing. Spotlights are meant to have a separate switch, so if you can't find one I wonder if the spots packed up or caused problems, and so a previous owner removed the switch to prevent them from being turned on? If they are not correctly wired it is common for them to cook the headlight switch ...

As for the panel lights, the book shows a grid of 12 - 3 across, 4 down - I'll run through them here, most of them as you say are obvious, but a few arent:

1st row
left: trailer inidcator - if you hitch up a trailer this should flash in synhc with your indicators to show the trailer lighting is working correctly. If there is a fault with the trailer lights, it will just flash once when you indicate. When there is no trailer hitched up, it should flash briefly once each time you indicate
mid: indicators
right: main beam

2nd row
left: handbrake on
mid: someone not wearing seat belt
right: brake fluid pressure warning light

3rd row
left: oil pressure wanring light, may flicker at idle but should go off when engine revved
mid: choke light (yours is a petrol, no?)
right:charge warning light

4th row
left: difflock wanring light - should light up when the cntre diff is locked
mid:brake pad wear wanring light. SHould come on (as a bulb test) when handbrake is on and key in position II - if not repalce bulb. WIll come on when brake pads have reached minimum thickness
right: the book doesn't say!!! But it looks like coolant level wanring to me

there is'nt a spot light on them although i have one fitted next to the fuse box right hand side just under the steering column,
but this switch would more likely have been fitted by a previous owner.

you could try searching for a switch somewhere thats not LR standard or the spots may come on like mine do with full beam only.

Thanks Bernie ;) much appreciated.

Polstar - def don't come on with my lights at all.. will search for a self installed switch though.

Sounds silly searching so hard but they'd fail me for an mot round her without them working. not that it needs an mot till next June.. but you know what I mean! hehe
