Hi,
Just seeking advice.. again!

I drove about 30 miles today at 70 on M25, and when I got home nipped up the stables. Car temp was fine on the clock.
Anyway I washed my windscreen and noticed the water was warm (could see it evapourating). I got hubby to feel it and it was warm to the touch...
Is this normal? i've never had that on a car before...

Also while we're here...Had a low level noise today.. can't really say what it was, seemed to go when clutch in fully.
And finally, how bad is a kind of knocking of the gears when you lift your foot off the clutch immediately - high gears.
It does it in all gears but i'm guessing it's a fault with the gearbox, but is there another reason? or am i just letting hte clutch up too early? - never had probs in other cars.

Thanks as always! ;)

Heated windscreen ? there is no water bottle heating elements I've heard of, so maybe its just very hot under your hood, on my td5 the washer bottle is next to the rad, but never noticed it warming the water, mind U a diesel probably runs a lot cooler than a v8

Hmmmm see that's what i was wondering.. maybe i'm running hot! :p no laughing or rude comments please! hehe

my temp gage is at about 50% when i'm on a longer run... so i'm a bit puzzled.

will re-check levels today.

does seem to be running a bit hot mine remains on the first mark about 25% i think,
you could try adding some coolant (summer anti freeze) to the radiator or check the header tank is filled up to the plastic marker inside it but do not go over that mark (in the shape of + sticking upwards).

You will most likely have heated washer jets. Usually fitted to discos and Range Rovers. But yes there is enough heat under the bonnet to heat a tank of water. Its all normal. Engine temp gage at 50% is perfectly normal.

Phew Thanks! ;) Really glad it's nothing serious!
Have watched the temp closely today and although no motorway driving i've probably done about 20 miles and it's stayed between 25 and 50% markers.

Was it a hot day? You'd be surprised how hot windscreens can get so that 'normal' temperature screen wash will evaporate when it hits the windscreen.

Hi,

Also while we're here...Had a low level noise today.. can't really say what it was, seemed to go when clutch in fully.

I've got a small rattling sound coming from the clutch on my 300tdi Discovery. I think it's the bearings knocking around a little, and when I put my foot on the clutch it puts pressure on them so they stop making noises. I've not long had the engine out and replaced the clutch, so I'm just going to leave it rattle - I can't be doing with lifting the engine again just to cure a small rattle which isn't actually harming anything. Maybe you've got a similar problem?

Wasn't particulary hot no, but then not cold either.. so maybe it could have been that.

Brian - the rattling could be that.. the clutch has been replaced recently-ish.

Hubby is thinking the clunking on changing gear or when accelerating could be the drive shaft... or maybe it's just the gears. That doesn't happen if i come off the clutch really slowly.. so i am doing that.. when I remember ;)
