Well was driving home after seeing my girlfriend last night along a quiet road. Thank god I came across a parked car on my side so had to stop and go around it. Just after this (the reason I was going quite slow) a insane taxi driver (of which there are many here) decided he was going to turn into a side road but wasn’t looking at oncoming traffic (he was eyeballing a girl at the side of the road) and basically he turned straight infront of me. I had three choices, 1. Hit him. 2. Hit the girl (would of killed her) or 3. hit another oncoming car at higher speed.

So I hit his car. Thing is he’s and illegal immigrant, no taxi license, no driving license, no insurance etc etc. But hey, at the end of the day I'm OK bit of a sore neck etc so the hunk of metal did the job I bought it for and after 7 years the airbag worked like a charm, it was like hitting a soft pillow thank god. The girl on the path was shaken up and I recorded her statement on my camera, so hopefully that will be ok.

Cheek is they asked me to accept the blame and they (owners of the taxi) would pay the excess on my insurance. They tried that about 3 times and on the third I just went mental and told them that until now I had been a saint and the atmosphere was friendly, but if they didn’t shut the hell up and went back to the car I was going to get ****ed off and that would all change. I don’t care what it costs me, the truth is always the best policy in these events.

Anyway, back to being depressed and car-less....

Take care,

Russ.

Well it looks like a long battle with the insurance is coming up, they want to write it off now  eek I guess the parts are just too expensive to get down here, as its about $2000 just fo the bumper! I'm gonna fight for her right to survive, but I guess its gonna be an up hill battle. To make matters worse they gave me an automatic Yaris as a rental car... yuk! I only have it for 7 days though as thats all my insurance covers...

Good luck Beany, sounds like you will have a battle on your hands, shame you're not over here...........not that the insurance companies r any better, but you'd prob get her repaired cheaper???

Hope it all works out...............oh and a Yaris  I'd rather walk! :)

same thing happened to me except the police were called to the crash after 7 months the taxi firm owner took the blame for it and it went through on his insurance, (the bloke that crashed into me had no license, insurance etc) after a lot of pressure from the police.. :(

glad you are OK

Commisserations - however cars are replaceable and you are not!

Once the airbags are fired on a vehicle, or the "supplementary restraint system" is activated, most vehicles are beyond economic repair.

One will note that more vehicles are now being written off by insurance companies following collisions and it is caused by the extreme cost of repairs to air bag systems.
