OK...this is going to freak some folk, but just like my baby wipes thread, this is about some non Automotive stuff that works on....well...cars.

Cant remember where I picked this up from, but the important issue is that it really works for cleaning alloy wheels.

I've ONLY ever used the Mr Muscle brand of foaming oven cleaner so cant comment on others, but remove an alloy wheel, spray on the foaming Mr Muscle, leave for about 30/40 seconds, agitate a little with a soft brush, leave for say 30 seconds more, rinse off......BRAND NEW LOOKING ALLOYS!!!!!!!!! If you dont believe me, try it on the wife's or neighbour's car first.

SAFETY TIP. Ensure you have a mask on or are in a well ventilated area. If outside, a slight breeze will help. Rinse hands as soon as possible after contact with the cleaner and follow all printed safety instructions as they will relate to contact on skin, inhalation etc.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU APPLY THE STUFF FOR LONGER THAN STATED BUT SUSPECT BAD THINGS MAY HAPPEN TO THE FINISH OF THE WHEEL.

This stuff cleaned some pretty black alloys, inside and outside. I would only use it on some pretty mucky wheels, not slightly dusty ones.

I bought some wheel cleaner from my local motor shop for my alloys it works much like oven cleaner.
I used to get the acid stuff wonder wheels for the Disco but it takes the lacquer off in time.

The lacquer coming off is a concern of course. I used the Mr M stuff 3 times with no effect. Well, no discernable effect that is. Over time who knows? It may have the same effect as the Wonder wheels stuff.......anyone using, beware this possible side effect.
Wonder if the wheel cleaner would clean ovens?

Hmm good tip. I have some alloy wheel cleaner in the garage but I don't have alloy wheels. Do you think it will get the burnt bits of yourkshire pudding and steak and kidney pie off the side of the oven??

I am a fan in using things for an alternative purpose. Done the oven cleaner on wheels with success, tried baby wipes on interior plastics with superb results. Spray glass cleaner is fantastic for getting flies off!

Oven cleaner is a mixture of ionic and catonic(?) detergents. will shift all sorts of muck.
I use foaming Mr M for a few things, superb for cleaning the glass on woodburning stoves, removes all the tar and soot. Also cleaning dishes and pans with burnt on food.
there are spray/trigger type ones as well, I use fairy power spray on stubborn grease (not on my hands), and for brush cleaning. After cleaning with solvent, wipe dry on an old rag, spary on power stuff, work in , and rinse out. repeat if necessary.

ok.. how about fairy pump type foam for washing up.. use that instead of swarfega for cleaning your hands!

Or good old washing up liquid with a little bit of soap powder thrown in...

all work a treat! ;)

White vinegar will shine up aluminum - like your kitchen sink.. or whatever else! ;) Also taps etc.
And it'll de-scale your kettle.
