Wifey is on about a freelander again, budget of £4k, seems to be 98/99 DI money. Are they a safe bet or a bag of poo? I know the TD4 is better but to expensive at the mo and I aint doing a K series

I've had my 99 xedi for about 6 months now, nothing to expensive went wrong yet, and I like it. Brace yourself for everyone telling you to save for td4, ok in an ideal world. My situ meant i had to save for a while for my di so didn't want to wait any longer.
check the car out first of course but i dont see anything bad about my car, i love to drive it (havent really enjoyed driving for years pre landy) and it seems to like being driven.
i'm no expert but i hope that helps

I've got a 98.................she is a good girl most of the time. But I have had a new clutch, new ABS ECU, New VCU for the Prop. The heatercore leaks water. There is something wrong with the ABS (but no one knows what).......................But apart from that it's a good car, she has done over 115000 miles so I can't expect the earth I guess............mind you I do

The engines have reputaion for being bomb proof. It's the same Perkins Prima engine that was used in Sherpa vans, the Maestro and Montego, and the Rover 200/400, etc.
OK, so they are not glamour cars, but if you think how popular the Montego was with minicabbers you get an impression of its reliability over hundreds of thousands of miles.
Cheers
