I have bought a discovery

Hi After my last posting of Buying a discovery Neeed help! I have found what I hope is a reasonable one. I had looked at about 15 of them! I have bought a 1998 300TDi R reg with 89000 on the clock it seems mechanically ok with the exception of the water pump which is noisy and will need changing. I can fix the water pump but I am nervous about changing the timing belt. I can get a LR OEM belt for about £32 but obviously it will need to be fitted etc. Does any one know of a good Land Rover mechanic or independant garage in the Edinburgh area. I am picking the Disco up this weekend and it needs to be valetted because it smells of wet dog!
One other bit of advice whats the best way to clean / repair the corroded aluminium that has bubbled under a few places on the rear wheel arch.

The smell of wet dog is almost certainly due to water leaks. Check the underside of the boot carpets. It's a well known problem unfortunately.

Yes for defo the smell of the wet dog is damp, check the back of the car, lift the carpet up and the underlay, also check other areas of the carpet.
Sorry but it's a fact of life, if it doesn't leek it aint a landy, on the other hand would I give up my landy.... no way

As someone told me in the garage where I get mine fixed... landy owners are a strange breed!

Well done on the Disco.

I just rubbed my corroding area down and then touched it up with a spray can.

As for timing belts,any reputable garage will do as I wouldn't dare do mine, even though with the correct tool (£100 notes or there abouts) its only a matter of patience and being carefull - neither of which I own?

Good luck with disco, I just had timing belt done £240 at the B T garage at sight hill ind est.(Pentland Land Rover quote was £340)

98 disco,
