Hi All
I am a defender man thru and thru and have been for the last 10 years, however I have been offered a 91 (h reg) lpg converted v8 manual disco for a price I cant afford to miss.
Apparently it has had a lot spent on it including recent new gearbox & clutch, new shocks etc.
I am planning to use it to replace my defender off roader and will be mainly used as an off road toy
What should I really look out for on a V8 disco of this age, my wife drives a 98 300 tdi disco and weve only had a few problems with it but with it being a diesel I dunno if there are any major differences I should be aware of.
cheers wbc

As far as the car goes,it is an old Disco. But the engine, well a 3.5 v8 running on the hot wire injection system is about the most reliable and tolerant combination the factory put together.Reason I say this is twofold,EFI sorted out Rover V8's more than anything else,(hotwire injection and electronic ignition did it)and the 3.5 block seems to be lots more tolerant to abuse from overheating and cr-p LPG systems.
3.5 v8's have been driven to my workshop with tappets rattling from low oil level - no oil pressure,no coolant at all.(oil boiling and crackling in the sump)
Sort them out and off they go - do that to a 94mm block,(3.9/4.0,4.2,4.6) and it will come sailing back a few weeks later needing a new engine.
Sent a 3.9 v8 disco away last week, rusty spark plug, coolant in no5 bore after being left pressurized overnight.Owner was going to "trade it in " after I told him what it would cost to repair it.
